January 21st event is on a Tuesday night at the Comedy and Magic Club in Hermosa Beach. https://comedyandmagicclub.com/
Why? Because it’s how we’ll have the bucks we need to benefit our home area of downtown and our various international endeavors. We do good stuff, but the money has to come from somewhere! The good people at The Comedy and Magic Club do insist that ticket sales be to persons who actually intend to come and be in the audience that night (arriving by 7:00 at the very latest) |

Musical Theatre Guild
Jan. 31, 2020
After graduating from Brigham Young University in 2006 with a BFA in Music Dance Theatre, Jeffrey moved to Los Angeles to begin working as a professional theatre actor. Over the past decade, he has established himself as a true triple threat in Southern California, singing, dancing, and acting in roles like Bobby Child in CRAZY FOR YOU (San Diego Musical Theatre and Moonlight Amphitheatre), Phil Davis in WHITE CHRISTMAS (Musical Theatre West and San Diego Musical Theatre), and Riff in WEST SIDE STORY (Performance Riverside). As the Emcee in CABARET (Welk Resort) he was nominated by the San Diego Critics Circle for Best Leading Performance. His one man show COMFY was awarded the 2018 Billy Barnes Award for Best Cabaret Performance. In addition, from 2013 to 2019, he was employed by the Walt Disney Company as a singer/dancer at their California parks. In 2013, Jeffrey became a member of Musical Theatre Guild, and in 2015, he began efforts to expand their education outreach in connection to their season of one night only staged events. By cultivating relationships with educators all around the greater LA area, Jeffrey visits hundreds of students in their classrooms each year, introducing many to the musical theatre art form for very first time. These visits then become invitations as Musical Theatre Guild provides those same students with free tickets to attend their seldom seen musical productions at the historic Alex Theatre in downtown Glendale, CA.

Be Scared: A Legal Update for California Employers
Feb. 07, 2020
Whether you own a business or are responsible for supervising employees, California Labor Laws can be dangerous. Violations might be unintentional, but can result in administrative fines, wage and hour claims, lawsuits, and even class actions costing millions of dollars. Our own GSR Club member, Barry Bradley, Esq., from the law firm of Bradley & Gmelich LLP in Glendale, will provide us with an update on some of the laws and rules that impact how we all should do business and how we interact with people in the workplace. You may want to invite any of your Human Resource professionals and business owners who are sure to get some helpful information to improve your policies and procedures, and to shield yourselves from liability. About the Speaker: Barry A. Bradley is the Managing Partner of Bradley & Gmelich LLP located in Glendale, California, where he oversees the Employment and Business Teams at the firm. A former Deputy District Attorney, Barry’s practice concentrates on representing business owners in employment, business and licensing issues, as well as defending litigated cases involving negligent security, employment and business related issues. The firm acts as general counsel for many companies in California. Barry is the volunteer Legal Advisor to multiple non-profits. He has been conferred an AV-Preeminent Peer Rating by Martindale Hubbell, the highest rating attainable, and has been named a Southern California Super Lawyer for the past 15 consecutive years in the area of Business Litigation. bbradley@bglawyers.com 818-243-5200. How To Help Dyslexic Students Win!
Mar. 06, 2020
Sixty-five percent of students are failing to reach grade level reading by 4th grade and not catching up. Reading failures cause students to have low self-esteem and they become at risk of dropping out of high school and going to prison. It doesn’t have to be this way! With the right training program, teachers who teach up to 120-140 students a day, will be saving thousands of lives and helping students for many years to come! In this presentation, you will learn: “Cruz is a 2nd grader and felt his little kindergarten sister was smarter than him. Within weeks, as a result of learning to read, his self-esteem has sky-rocketed! He is now teaching his little sister the phonics and grammar rules. Now he feels smarter than his baby sister!” Cruz’s Mom Dr. Marianne Cintron has a Doctorate of Education in Leadership and Administration, has a Masters in General Education and one in Special Education, and has two California Teaching Credentials. She is a Dyslexia Specialist, President of Step By Step Dyslexia Solutions, and a National Trainer. She has twenty years of experience in Education, ten years as a Classroom Teacher, is an Author, App Developer, and Curriculum Writer. After teaching in several districts, she left the school system to have a greater reach and to help schools learn about teaching dyslexic students. She is currently a board member of the International Dyslexia Association–Tri County Branch, a member of the Pomona Chamber of Commerce, and Secretary of Christian Business Partners in Glendora. She is the only educator using music with her reading program to effectively help dyslexic students improve in reading at a profound rate. She is passionate to share this information with schools in order to close the achievement gap in reading and stop the school to prison pipeline |

Mar. 10, 2020 - Mar. 27, 2020
Bring your unwanted shoes to our meetings this month so we can donate them at the District Breakfast on 31March! Shoes will be collected during our meetings through Friday, March 27 Your used shoes are tired of being stuck in the closet. Let them live again. Share them with those who have none. Children need shoes to get to school if they are lucky, or walk miles for water if not so. Adults need shoes to get to and perform work. Any kind of shoes including boots, sandals and high heels are needed. Soles4Souls has collected over 2 million pairs of shoes per year for many years for distribution in the U.S. and around the world to those in need. Most used shoes end up in landfills adding to pollution, when they could be allowing a child to get to school or an adult to get to work. Soles4Souls was formed by Wayne Elsey in response to the tsunami in South-East Asia in 2004 and provided thousands of pairs after Katrina. The U.S. need has first priority but distribution is worldwide. In addition to shoes, Soles4Souls relies on contributions to cover the cost of collection and distribution. You can contribute directly at www.soles4souls.org. |
