Mar. 10, 2020 - Mar. 27, 2020
Bring your unwanted shoes to our meetings this month so we can donate them at the District Breakfast on 31March! Shoes will be collected during our meetings through Friday, March 27 Your used shoes are tired of being stuck in the closet. Let them live again. Share them with those who have none. Children need shoes to get to school if they are lucky, or walk miles for water if not so. Adults need shoes to get to and perform work. Any kind of shoes including boots, sandals and high heels are needed. Soles4Souls has collected over 2 million pairs of shoes per year for many years for distribution in the U.S. and around the world to those in need. Most used shoes end up in landfills adding to pollution, when they could be allowing a child to get to school or an adult to get to work. Soles4Souls was formed by Wayne Elsey in response to the tsunami in South-East Asia in 2004 and provided thousands of pairs after Katrina. The U.S. need has first priority but distribution is worldwide. In addition to shoes, Soles4Souls relies on contributions to cover the cost of collection and distribution. You can contribute directly at www.soles4souls.org. |

Heroes vs Legends
Jul. 31, 2020 7:30 a.m.
As the popular saying goes “Heroes get remembered, but Legends never die.” Reason being, heroes carry out a one time event to make an impact or change for an individual(s). Legends continuously impact the world by their work ethic without compromise. For example:
* Martin Luther King * Bruce Lee * Rotary
Their work ethics will stand the test of time that is why we call them Legends, because the work they started never dies.

District Governor Club Visit and District 5280 Update
Aug. 14, 2020 7:30 a.m.
DISTRICT GOVERNOR BETTE HALL A member of Calabasas Rotary Club since 2007, Bette Hall has held various positions, both within her Club and District 5280. Positions held include Club Avenues of Service and Events Chair, Board member, Club President, Assistant Governor, District Trainer for several years, and three years as the Senior Assistant Governor, Youth Services for District 5280. She has also chaired both the 2019 District Club Assembly and District Conference. Her current District position is the Senior Assistant Governor, Education and Training, as well as District Governor Elect. Bette has been very involved in developing and providing training for the Youth Protection Program and if asked to select an area she is most passionate about in Rotary, the answer has to be our Youth Programs. In 2017 Bette was one of two members who received the Rotarian of the Year award for District 5280, the other being none other than our District Governor Melody St. John. She is very honored to be selected as District 5280 Governor, 2020-21.
Originally from London, England, Bette is a long-time resident of the West San Fernando Valley, and retired a few years ago from a long and varied career in Human Resources after holding positions such as Director and Vice President of Human Resources for large, multi-state/International companies, prior to running her own HR consulting company.
What Bette enjoys most about retirement is having more time to volunteer with Rotary and an extra bonus – spending more time with her family, and especially the grandchildren. She feels very fortunate to have them all living within easy driving distance, and being able to go to their activities, including baseball games, to cheer them on.
